Discussions held:

Treasury Report:

The Treasury report stated that as of 12/31/2014, CCS had a bank balance of $16,256.22   Current CCS membership as of 12/31/2014 was 208.

Regions:

The Region 1 tip SIG will hold it’s next meeting Next meeting 01-24-2015; at 35th and King Dr. The Senior SIG is meeting monthly on the last Wed 1:30PM at the Park Ridge        Senior Center.

   The Region 2 South Suburban Christmas party held on 12-16-2014 with 37 attendees.  The South Suburban New Users Group scheduled for  01-06-2015 was Cancelled due to snow.  The School closed, but no advanced notice was provided to the South Suburban Club.

.                      The Region 3’s Access SIG’s meeting was held December 8th with Maria Barnes the presenter from Barnes Business Solutions, linked in via WebEx,. Her topic was: “Working with Excel from Access”.  The Access SIG”s January 2015 meeting is cancelled as Mary Beth is on a Habitat for Humanity mission trip to Guatemala. Sanford Kolnick was the presenter at the Digital Imaging SIG meeting December 17. Sanford demonstrated how he built a Media Center Computer from scratch using Windows 7 Premium and used HD Home Run to watch TV.  The Digital SIG is suspended indefinitely until a meeting location is obtained.

                    The Region 5’s Tips/Fixes SIG held a meeting December 8th with Bill Zeigler presented Windows 10, features and compared the functionality of Open Office vs Libre Office

President’s Award:

                    Jerry Sass and Stan Hungness were the recipients of the 2014 President’s Award.

Harold Driscoll Award:

                    Joe Hendrickson is the recipient of the 2014 Harold Driscoll Award

Discussions held:

Treasury Report:

The Treasury report stated that as of 01/31/2015, CCS had a bank balance of $14,964.72   Current CCS membership as of 01/31/2015 was 209.

Regions:

The Region 2 South Suburban Club held a meeting January 20 with Tim Kekeis as Presenter.  Tim’s topic was: Firewalls, primarily Microsoft Firewall (Microsoft Security Essential Firewall).  Tim gave specific and detail info about critical settings, not only for Microsoft but those that are general across the board.  The Windows SIG held a meeting February 3rd with Al Cheeks a presenter.  Al’s topic was the history of CCS especially as it applied to the South Suburban Chapter...This presentation also included a short movie about Climate Changes and the effect that are seen to the Glaciers at the N-Pole.  This meeting attracted a viable crowd considering the severe weather.

.                 The Region 3 Computer Club held a meeting February 5th with Sanford as the presenter.  In addition to Open Forum, Sanford held a Christmas Present show and tell, (open to all) and shared his experiences at this year’s CES show.  At the Access SIG, February 9th the presenter Robert Aaron showed How to upgrade an Access application to use an SQL Server back end.  Robert also demonstrated how to do an actual upgrade of an application to SQL Server

  The Region 5’s Tips/Fixes SIG held a meeting February 9th with Bill Zeigler as the presenter.  Topics covered included, “Windows 10, free upgrade to Win 7 and 8x users”.    Bill also demonstrated how to Copy a bootable CD to USB to boot from that device.  The Northwest Club held a meeting February 19th.  Ed Keating presented  “Fixing Router Configuration Problems”.   This presentation focused on issues with some router specific configurations which can cause erratic and slow internet speeds. Using public DNS servers to speed up internet name lookups was also part of this presentation.

Treasury Report:

The Treasury report stated that as of 02/28/2015, CCS had a bank balance of $13,841.01   Current CCS membership as of 02/28/2015 was 209.

Regions:

  The Region 1 New Users SIG conducted a meeting February 28th (4th Saturday) at 35th & King Drive in Chicago.  The topic was getting your phone & computer to work together.  We continue to look for a meeting location within the loop.

   The Region 2 Tips and Tricks SIG held a meeting March 3rd with Roger Hale as the presenter.   Roger attempted to show various means to navigate through Microsoft Word…Unfortunately we had trouble with Internet connection and Comput5er system updates that interfered with his presentation.  The South Suburban Computer Club held a meeting March 17th with Al Cheeks as the presenter.  Al gave an overall view of how EverNote works.  Evernote is Web-base software which functions across all of your Internet devices, such as Smart-Phones, Laptops, NoteBooks, Pads, etc..   This software is able to capture, store, and index all kinds of data that one uses for any aspect of his/her everyday life.

.                 The Region 3 Computer Club held a meeting March 5th with Ed Nuernberger as the presenter.  Ed discussed weather related forecasting and pilot flying programs.  The Digital SIG held a Field Trip Monday February 16th to the Field Museum of Natural History.  All members were returned safely.  The Access SIG held a meeting March 9th with Mary Sue presenting.  Mary Sue incorporated the information she obtained from the December presentation by Maria Barnes,. “Working with Excel from Access”. Mary Sue developed an Access database that downloads detail data from an AS400, imports the data into Access, and presents the user a choice of two Excel Chart Decks.  With the click of a button the user can obtain many charts and tables.  The charts show the most recent 12 weeks of data.  The code is straight forward and simple thanks to Maria’s presentation.

 Treasury Report:

 The Treasury report stated that as of 03/31/2014, CCS had a bank balance of $13,721.19   Current CCS membership as of 03/31/2014 was 208.

Regions

    The Region 1 New Users SIG conducted a meeting March 28th (4th Saturday) at 35th & King Drive in Chicago.  Norman Montgomery presented Online Backup Packages focusing on Mozy Home (Free), and also covered Carbonite.

 The Region 2 South Suburban Club held a meeting March 17th with Al Cheeks presenting Evernote.  It is web-based software, will work with all your Internet devices, and is able to capture, store, and index all kinds of data that one uses for any aspect of his/her everyday life.  Evernote has 3 versions, a free version which comes with 60Mb/month of free storage, the Plus version $24.99/yr with 1GB/month of free upload storage, and the Premium version, $49.99/yr with unlimited monthly upload storage.  The South Suburban Chapter Steering Committee Meeting was held March 31st during which all meeting topics were identified for the remaining Spring/Summer meetings.  The Chapter meeting held on April 7th had Tim Kekeis presenting “User Account Control”.  He demonstrated how to construct and  name the various user accounts, such as Administrator and Standard.

CCS Website

The CCS Website has been unavailable to members since late February.  The web hosting company CCS uses updated it’s system software and the CCS site which is constructed using PageMaker is incompatible with the updated host system.  No estimate is available for the resolution of the CCS Website problems.

Discussions held:

       Treasury Report:The Treasury report stated that as of 04/30/2015, CCS had a bank balance of $13,484.49   Current CCS membership as of 04/30/2015 was 208.

Regions:

   The Region 1 New Users SIG conducted a meeting April 25th (4th Saturday) at 35th & King Drive in Chicago.  During this meeting Norman Montgomery continued his presentation of Online Backup Packages from the March meeting.  .

 The Region 2 South Suburban Windows SIG. held a meeting April 7th with Tim Kekeis presenting “How to setup a Microsoft Windows Account”.  Microsoft Windows has a 'critical' Setting/Function called the UAC (User Account Control), and using this feature one can create either an Administrator or Standard account...Both accounts can and should be be Password Protected.   The best time to set-up these accounts is during the initial setup of the PC.. Tim also demonstrated the implementation of these features as one must log-off and log-on when adding accounts.  This was a very informative and timely presentation  The South Suburban Club meeting was held on April 21st  with Vicky Panazzio presenting “Favorite Apps for Smart Phones and iPhones”.  Vicky opened by asking everyone to turn-on their Cell Phone and tell the membership their Favorite Apps.  Al Cheeks opened his 'HotSpot' and asked people to connect to it to see how his HotSpot functioned...U-tube Videos seem to be the best means of learning how to use various Apps...The Application Manager was discussed and also Lock-out Code and their use.  The meeting was very informative.  The New Users SIG. held a meeting May 5th with Roger Hale presiding.  Al Cheeks opened with Tips, Tricks & Traps.  Al also gave a report of the Memorial for Charley Sickels held by his family on Sunday, May-2, 2015.  Roger presented “Hints, Tips in Microsoft Word for Windows 7, Using Tables & Margins”  Roger gave a hand-out with instructions on how to construct the various Charts and Tables.so that that one can sync Word with Excel and how to transfer information from one to the other...Roger demonstrated how this is done using the examples that he included within the hand-out. There was class participation and feedback as is normal for Roger’s presentations

 .   The Region 3 Access SIG held a meeting April 13th with John Swedlund as the presenter.  John continued the SIG’s exploration of combining the power of Access and Excel.  John demonstrated an Access application that uses an Excel template file with multiple worksheets for reporting purposes.  Scaling of report data may be done pre-report generation or post-report generation, i.e., either via Access or via Excel. The Digital SIG did not meet during this period.   The Region 3 Computer Club held a meeting May 7th with Tim Kekeis  presenting a program in which he  discussed the various aspects and features of Microsoft Windows Accounts on how one should set them up.  This presentation was very similar to his April presentation at the South Suburban Windows SIG.

   The Region 5’s The Northwest Club held a meeting April 16th.  Ed Keating presented  ““Latest tips and techniques”.  During this presentation, Ed shared recent tips on securing your browser and using incognito modes to speeding up your (Android) phone’s response.  The meeting also will also had an extended open forum to discuss any additional current topics.

CCS Website

The CCS Website was moved to a new server and Support Operating System in late February/early March time period, this produced numerous problems with the CCS site essentially rendering it nonfunctional.  The CCS website’s secure area function was disabled which improved the the overall site functionality, but  opening this area to the internet produced another problem.  With the site Secure Area no longer functional the Hard-Copy Managing Editor requested that all archived Hard-Copy issues beginning with the May 2012 issue through the April 2015 issue be removed from the CCS site to prevent  public access to these issues. The board agreed that this action should be taken.

 The meeting was adjourned at 12:01  P.M.

   The Region 1 New Users SIG conducted a meeting in May (the 4th Saturday) at 35th & King Drive in Chicago.  During this meeting Norman Montgomery continued his presentation of Online Backup Packages..  .

The Region 2 South Suburban Club. held a meeting May 19th with Joe Nowak presenting “PDF software and Uses”.  Joe also included another topic “Little known Facts about Google”.  Joe’s presentation was a great hit with the members.   June 2nd the windows Sig held a meeting with Al Cheeks presenting :Blue Tooth & Settings.  This topic was timely and well received by the members.

.                          Neither the Region 3 Access SIG nor the Digital SIG.  held meetings during this period.  The Access SIG is on Summer vacation and the Digital SIG is without a meeting location.  The Westside Club held a meeting June 4th with Al Cheeks Presenting an overview of the IrfanView software program.  IrfanView is a robust and free image editor with many useful features.

                           The Region 5’s The Northwest Club held a meeting May 21st,   Ed Keating presented  ““Streaming Video”.  During this presentation, Ed also provided an overview of the software and devices which support Streaming Video.    The meeting also had an extended open forum to discuss any additional current topics.  The Tips and Tricks SIG held a meeting June 1st with Sanford Kolnick demonstrating the use of a Thermal Imaging Camera and also discussed how to link USB speakers to a laptop running Windows 8.1.

The Treasury report stated that as of 06/30/2015, CCS had a bank balance of $13,193.25   Current CCS membership as of 06/30/2015 was 204.

Regions:

   The Region 1 New Users SIG conducts meetings on the 4th Saturday at 35th & King Drive in Chicago.  Norman Montgomery is the Coordinator ofthis SIG.

The Region 2 South Suburban Club. held a meeting June 16th.  This meeting started off with a meal with all 25 attendees providing a dish to pass and an Epson printer (4-in-1) the drawing prize.  Additionally Larry Yelder provided a presentation on the topic of "Ethical Hacking".  Larry defined Ethical Hacking and identified ways one can be hacked.  This included your automobile, home security system, cell phones, personal computers, and home phone/internet system both land-line and WiFi.  The New Users SIG held a meeting July 7th with Roger Hale covering the topic "Advanced Skills and Techniques regarding Microsoft Word Settings". 

.                          No meetings were held in Region 3 during this period.  The Access SIG is on vacation, the Westside Club's meeting was cancelled, and the Digital SIG is without a meeting location. 

                           The Region 5’s Northwest Club held a meeting June 18th,   Ed Keating presented  ““Windows 10”, during which, Ed covered in depth the information currently available from Microsoft.  The Tips and Tricks SIG held a meeting July 6th.  The topics covered were the free Amazon price tracker (Camel Camel), Pocket Booth Camera software, Sync Toy that enables one to copy, move, rename, and delete files between folders and computers and  Robocopy (Robust file Copy) that is a more powerful Xcopy replacement.

The Treasury report stated that as of 11/30/2015, CCS had a bank balance of $15,207.96   with current CCS membership 184.

Regions:

   The Region 1 New Users SIG meeting scheduled for November 28th (4th Saturday) at 35th & King Drive in Chicago was cancelled due to it's conflict with Thanksgiving.

The Region 2 South Suburban New User's SIG. held a meeting December 1st with Larry Yelder presenting “Android Phones/Tips/Tricks/Apps/Hacks.  The South Suburban Computer Club's Christmas party was held December 15th.

.                          The November meetings of the Region 3 Access SIG and the Digital Imagery SIG were cancelled.  The Region 3 Westside Computer Club held it's annual Christmas party December 3rd, at which Sanford Kolinek lead a Windows 10 discussion group.

                    The Region 5’s The Northwest Club held a meeting November 19th.  John Nicoulakos  presented  Microsoft from Start to Windows 10 “ which was a historical look at Microsoft's  efforts to develop a computer operation system.  The Computing Tips/Fixes Special Interest Group with Coordinator William Zeigler held a meeting December 7th at the Poplar Creek  Public Library Streamwood. Topics  discussed were::  New Windows 10 points, Cloud backup, Zamzar file conversion, alternatives, and System recovery experiences and comment. 

     New CCS Website Investigation:

                      The team of Johns Owery and Nicoulakos reported no significant progress since starting this task..
